Silsleeve cylinder replacement
The existing Lokasil liners are machined out and replaced by steel liners plated with the well proven low-friction Nikasil running surface. These SilSleeve liners are specially designed to have a top flange which provides more support at the mating face with the cylinder heads, known as a closed-deck construction
Intermediate shaft replacement
For the current 997, Porsche introduced their 5th upgrade for the Intermediate shaft, this using a larger bearing as well as the more substantial rear oil seal to stop leaks in this area. As this latest shaft won't fit the pre-2001 engines, Autofarm have designed a simple conversion to utilise this technology in all 1997-2000 engines
'Big-Bore' conversions
By using Silsleeve liners Autofarm are now able to provide several options for substantial capacity increases:
- 2000-on Boxster 2.7 to 3.0 litres
- 1998-2001 996 3.4 to 3.7 litres
- 2000-on Boxster S 3.2 out to 3.7 litres
- 2002-2005 996 3.6 out to 3.9 litres
Rebuilt engines come with (where relevant):
- Silsleeve rebuilt cylinder block
- New piston rings for the Nikasil bores
- Our modified intermediate shaft (for pre-2001 engines)
- The latest 997 intermediate shaft (for 2002-on engines)
- Updated intermediate shaft chain tensioner
- New Variocam chain guides
- The latest Variocam solenoids
- Cylinder heads and valves reconditioned as necessary back to manufacturer's tolerances
- All new main and big-end bearings and big-end bolts
- All 24 new cylinder head to crank carrier bolts
- All of the latest seals (including the RMS) and gaskets
- All other wear items, e.g. chain guides, checked and replaced as necessary
- Pistons are replaced only if necessary (rarely needed); otherwise the original items are simply fitted with new rings to the correct specification.
Terminology:
- 'Short block'. A fully built-up cylinder block assembly, less cylinder heads.
- 'Long block'. A fully built-up engine, less ancillaries, manifolds, flywheel, clutch, looms, etc
- 'Exchange'. Exchange cylinder blocks, short, long or full engines must be on a same model like-for-like basis, though same model year not required.
