1970 911S PROTOTYPE

Resurrection and Restoration of 1970 model Porsche 911S Prototype.

Chassis no. 11 030 0012.  UK Reg. no. VRC 911S

Build to Group 4 2.3 litre 911 ST, to comply with FIA Appendix K, and Eligible for 1968 - 71 FIA period

HISTORY:

  • 23 July 1969     First registered In Stuttgart, S-P 7461. Retained by Factory for 2 years. Specific useage and history as yet unknown, but the ‘Fahrzeugbrief' registration document notes the fitting of Dunlop 5.00M 15 R7 tyres. Original engine no. 630 0013, a 2.2 911S 180 bhp engine.
  • 8 July 1971       Replacement engine fitted, 2.2 litre 911T engine no. 610 0001.
  • 8 July 1971       Purchased by Factory Engineer Gebhard Ruf. Gebhard has only a vague recollection, as he purchased a number of ex Factory cars, tidying them up for subsequent resale.
  • 20 April 1972 - 16 May 1975 3 owners in Germany.
  • 16 Dec 1977      Imported to UK and registered to a Paul Stephen Flanagan, reg. no. VRC 911S.
  • 30 Mar 1979      Purchased by Autofarm as a damaged car, still with 2.2 911T engine no. 610 0001.This was removed and sold on, and the car subsequently largely dismantled and stored until 2008.

Engine

  • Built on ‘7R' magnesium crankcase, to full race ‘blue-print' standards.
  • Titanium con rods, 85 mm high compression pistons.
  • 906 centre-feed cams
  • Twin Marelli ignition.
  • Race spec 46IDA Weber carbs
  • Factory race spec glassfibre cowlings
  • Small diameter race fan
  • Race spec. pressure-side race oil filter

Transmission

  • Early magnesium case 5-speed gearbox, ‘Gripper' LSD set to 40%, competition ratio set.

Oil System

  • Original pattern in-sill mounted oil lines, matrix front wing oil cooler.

Fuel System

  • Original early ‘70's plastic race 100 litre centre-fill fuel tank, foam filled.

Suspension

  • Bilstein competition spec. shock absorbers
  • Uprated torsion bars
  • Plastic suspension bushing

Brakes & Wheels

  • Vented discs all round with cooling ducting for front brake cooling, no back-plates
  • Fly-off handbrake
  • 911R type 7J x 15 Fuchs front wheels, 9J x 15 Original Minilite rear wheels

Bodyshell & Bodywork

  • Bodyshell extensively restored, strengthened as permitted, acid dipped and final ‘E-coat' protected.
  • Full welded-in FIA 6-point roll cage with door and harness bars
  • 2.3 ltr 911ST pattern front and rear flares, turned arch lips, glassfibre front and rear bumpers
  • Glassfibre/balsa wood front bonnet, aluminium engine lid
  • Polycarbonate side and rear windows, with wind-up windows, opening rear quarter windows
  • Interior bodyshell finished in semi-matt black. 
  • Final body colour Blood Orange.

Interior

  • Scheel period driver's bucket seat, separate headrest, seat belt slots for full harness
  • Lightweight pattern interior trim and carpet set, to period 911 T/R spec..
  • 380 mm Sport steering wheel

Electrics, Controls & Safety

  • All required ‘MoT legal' lights, indicators, wipers, washers and dash controls
  • Standard instruments plus original 10,000 tachometer,
  • FIA spec. plumbed in fire system, remote ‘Cartek' solid state battery isolator, dry cell competition battery, mounted in steering well
  • All current requirements for circuit competition, rear ‘rain' light, front and rear tow hooks, etc.

 

PROGRAMME

  • Built for current Historic competition, be it Circuit racing or Classic Rallies.
